Critical Care
The critical care department, also known as the intensive care unit (ICU), is a specialised unit in hospitals that provides comprehensive care for patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries. Patients in the ICU require constant monitoring and support from a highly trained team of critical care specialists, including intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals. The critical care department uses advanced medical technology and equipment to provide intensive care, including mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and continuous renal replacement therapy.
The goals of the critical care department are to stabilise patients, prevent further deterioration, and promote recovery. Patients in the ICU may require ongoing care for days or even weeks, and the critical care team works closely with other healthcare providers to coordinate care and facilitate a smooth transition to other levels of care.
